Intact animals are easier to clean up. Assuming you don't step on them so heavily that they break and spurt organs and fluids in every direction. That's annoying. Just one of the reasons I believe carpets are a bad idea.

Now you can claim that 43% of your readers would like to tread in dead rat of a morning[1] :)

This poll has a certain amount of special relevance for me at the moment, since at seven in the morning, as we huddled warmly in bed dreaming of baking aquariums in pastry and the like, the dulcet tones of vomiting-cat floated gently up the stairs.

Except that it wasn't from downstairs. And I trod in it in my bleary stagger toward the bathroom.

FWIW, I've experienced the (non-bursting) rat too; the gobbets were [livejournal.com profile] ramtops's morning experience a few weeks ago.
