Government Re-education Camp

Well, that’s me booked in for corrective treatment of my anti-social behaviour (viz. driving at 38mph in the 30mph section of the Portway by the Park and Ride). This is out of curiosity, really, as I’ve not been offered the option before - this was, IIRC, the sixth time I’ve been prosecuted for speeding in 32 years of driving - but will, barring further misadventure, mean my licence will be point-free in a couple of months time.

The “course” is in Shirehampton so, weather permitting, I’ll turn up on my bike. Which will enable me to get home unaided if they decide I’m a Bad Sort and tear up my licence anyhow...

OW. Here it's €90 instant fine - or an automatic speedcamera scans your plate (fines here for dirty plates too) and automatically posts you your fine. Happened to my Mary without her knowing.

Automatic £60+3 points here, these days; you get the option of three hours indoctrination instead of the points, but no more than once in any three year period. By some strange coincidence, the "speed awareness course" costs 60 quid too.

I sat on a coach between Geneva and Val d'Isere last week and noticed preciely one speed camera in the 4 hour ride. Speculate, please, on how many you would have seen on a similar trip in the UK.

Hugh did one of these courses - said it was actually quite informative.

If they put you in the simulator where you're supposed to click a button when you perceive a hazard... Hugh's problem was he was seeing teh hazard too soon - before, in fact, the machine had started listening to the button click, so was "failing".

My NDN is an ex police driver and had exactly the same problem when training to be a driving instructor.
