Where parents, pupils and patients are in charge of our schools and hospitals.

So no change on the Tory/NewLabor consensus on trashing and sidelining teachers, nurses and doctors, then?

That’s why I will set up a network of real families, who have nothing to do with party politics, in every region of this country to advise me on what they think should be my priorities.

That’ll be Focus Groups and a direct line to Murdoch and the Mail, then?

All this and a Trident replacement! Still, my beating heart.

Oh well, at least Conference sets policy; unless that’s due for change too?

Not so far as I've heard ... and I trust it will not change.

Other than that, nothing in that speech I ain't heard at least twice already this year ... yawn. And certainly not what I voted for.

I think policy will be determined by whoever's operating him:

Of course he is. Be honest with yourself here - the LibDems will never be in power. The only power they hold is the ability to keep a minority Labour government in power and moderate it slightly Leftwards.

With Huhne in the lead they would've been marginalised, a fringe party down there with Plaid Cymru and the SNP. Huhne was ballot-box poison for the general public.

With Clegg they might just hold a few tens of seats. Enough to make a difference in a close election.

The days and delusions of "go back to your constituencies and prepare for power" are long gone.

Oh I dunno, it's possible - it'd just take a long time with few mistakes.

On current form, you're right, it's never going to happen..

I think he geared the speach towards a certain part of the press, and it shows.

Having said that I *really* would like quangos and NHS "Trusts" to be accountable to those they serve, rather than civil servants and the echoe chamber of executives congratulating themselves on how great they all are.

I'm still annoyed about the farcial fudge that is party policy on trident - did the segment condemning Iran stay in - that's kind of ironic given that all evidence points towards their program being entirely civilian.
