We rarely eat any sort of sweet course when at home; last night might explain why.
We ate the tuna steaks bought on Saturday with rice, a shredded pak choi and chilli mix and a macerated lemon and balsamic vinegar sauce. Which was nice.
After this we ate
ramtops's version of
valkyrie_k's chocolate mousse recipe... As an indication of how often we do this sort of thing, this was the first outing for the copper Kitchen Aid bowl that called to us in the kitchen porn shop in Santa Cruz in June. An excellent job it did of the egg whites too.
The mousse itself involved unfeasible quantities of Valrhona chocolate and what Mac assured me was a small slug of Rowan's Creek bourbon. It was... evil... I was still pretty much awake at 3.30am... Twitching...
In between, we spent the evening watching the first two episodes of "The Beiderbecke Tapes" now, wonderfully, available on DVD. Glorious stuff, back from the time when ITV made television programmes.
Alan Plater's dialogue is a truly joyous thing. Intelligent comedy of sort that (by the signs) may not be made again in my lifetime :(
But, a lateish night followed by little sleep followed by an early morning: Pteppic is currently back at Vale Vets in Portishead having his teeth seen to, and we had to transport him there early today. This is, of course, after catching him... Having the food and water taken up of an evening seems to be enough to indicate What Is Going To Happen and he was, let us say, unavailable - and determined to stay that way. A pincer movement around the bed after he retreated thereunder eventually achieved confinement in the cat basket, but he wasn't happy and made sure we knew it all the way to the vets. Still, far better that way than the way he was when we last took him there to stay... We should hear this afternoon that all is well and that we can collect him.
