Two days now without coffee, and the memories of the last time I did this (some 20 years ago) come oozing back in a corrosive and toxic manner. I feel ill. It's actually harder than giving up fags: although, if my memories are in any way reliable, the vile effects should only last a week or so.
Why? I've been suffering from steadily worsening constipation for the last couple of months. No changes in diet that I can think of, so (apart from ingesting regular doses of some encapsulated roughage wossname that was lying around the house) I'm trying to narrow down possible causes.
The problem's start coincides in a coinciding sort of way with the Death of the Orgasmo and its consequent replacement with the Emergency Backup Espresso Machine.
This shouldn't have made any difference, particularly as I always hit the double-dose button on the Orgasmo and only use the single shot measure in the little machine. However, I've noticed that coffee from the latter has always hit my metabolism a lot harder - I used to use the machine on those days I was encubed in Swindon - the difference now being that I started using the thing every day, rather than just once or twice a week.
I don't know if there's any causal relationship between nature-of-coffee and blockage-of-bowel, but I reckon it's worth checking out.
On a more positive note, I'll hit two years without nicotine next Wednesday. Go me!
Can't help wondering what's next in Inner Cleansing though; my drug usage is getting pretty minimal. I've got occasional chocolate, my single daily cup of tea or whiske?y left, and no desire to sacrifice any of them.
