Well, that was a thing.

Just back from seeing It came from outer space at Colsnall, complete with 3D glasses and a live Pere Ubu soundtrack. Too Bloody Loud in occasional parts (and a grotty mix to boot), but huge fun and definitely one of those synergy lads in their combinations. It seems that their drummer tonight was Chris Cutler, who I last saw in (I think) 1977 with Henry Cow; damned fine percussionist he was and is too.

Support was a young Brissle lad, calling himself Kid Carpet; might even have a future in the Muzic Biz once the backs of his ears dry out if he keeps his hands out of his pockets and learns to respect his elders and betters. Some boffo samples and rhythms in there amongst the silliness and jumping around.

A good night, I feel.

Wasn't it just? Some of the 3D was a bit wonky from where we were sitting (just off the door end of row G) and hurt the brain somewhat until the medicinal lager kicked in, but other than that, all very fine.

I thought the Carpet fellow was jolly good, though I dunno that it would work as well on CD. Plenty of spot-the-loop fun. Yes.

ah - we were even nearer than you (Row D by the middle aisle). But the 3D stuff worked remarkably well, nonetheless - I actually found myself flinching at some of the bigger rocks!

why were people laughing at the telescope? (an innocent writes)

Either because it was yet another shot designed to show off the marvels of 3D[1], or because the astonomer was showing off his large instrument.

(I want to go live in the desert)

[1] It's one of my favourite films, and I'd never noticed before that it's even 'flatter' than a normally-shot film when shown on the telly. Seeing it 'native' for the first time last night was most odd. The terrible thing is that once I'd started to notice the obvious 3D setups, I began to see them everywhere rather than paying attention to the film as a whole.

What I wanted to know was why, if that was supposed to be an astronomical telescope, wasn't the image of the crater inverted?

I guess I'm just irremediably sad.
