Last night, we finally got round to watching Spiderman and Spiderman 2.

And very fine and silly movies they are too; I know not how true to the original comics they were as my Marvel tastes ran more to X, F4 and Doc Strange - I appreciated the last getting a namecheck - but they worked for [livejournal.com profile] ramtops and me. Loads of continuity weirdnesses, of course (what does Spides do with his street clothes?, why didn't the Goblin pull his mask when he had the chance?) but suspension of disbelief wasn't a problem and the SFX very fine indeed.

We're slightly concerned that, just after Spides pulled the plug on the first run attempt of the "fusion reactor" (solid tritium?), all power got cut off in Long Ashton (and Bower Ashton too, it seems). We expected to hear tentacular thumps coming down from Weston Road at any point as we wandered around outdoors with 3.5 million candlepower of torchlight (if it's worth doing, it's worth going over the top with); it remains to be seen what will happen next time we watch the thing... Needless to say, both server UPSen died before power came back: I think they're about at new battery time.

On the films, my only real disappointment was the ending of S2: there's no way MJ should have dumped her astronaut and run to PP. He should have been left angst ridden and alone, having to come to terms with his choices and conflicts, and she, trapped in a relationship that was only a shell over her loss and desire, doomed to failure. But maybe that's just me... ;)
