All I want to do is download the latest PHP source distro onto our co-lo box. Does it have to be so hard?
I don't want to download it here and then upload it via the strangled upstream bandwidth of our cable link.
I don't want to fire up a bloody browser on the target box.
All I want is a URL I can feed into wget... Is that too much to ask? Even SourceForge gives you that much (even if you have to kill the autodownload that gets fired off on its mirror page).
With PHP now, I have to figure out the damned URL from the "Downloading" dialog that Moz fires up and type the thing into my remote Eterm.
NOT EVERYBODY WANTS TO DOWNLOAD FILES TO THE SAME MACHINE THEY'RE BROWSING ON

Date: 2002-11-23 08:12 am (UTC)I generally don't do much remote control stuff, I just want to grab URLs and feed them to a download manager, or save 'em for later, or be able to download from a browser with no graphics, no Javascript, none of that bollocks. (Probably on some antique but that's me.)
Roll up and watch as the web is transformed into allegedly idiot-proof over-automated shit by a bunch of marketdroids in suits...
